Howard Miller 635-150 Murray Mantel Clock Review

Although I just returned this clock, it was only because of it's volume control. Even at its lowest setting it is louder than the level of a normal conversation and could still be heard on the 2nd floor, although barely. I feel that any volume control should start at dead silent and go up from there. The outside finish on the clock is so smooth it feels like plastic for the most part (I could be wrong on that) except for the legs and the access door in the back. The inside feels like some kind of wood composit. The access door in the back has a latch with an oval metal ring. In order to gain access one would think it needs to be pulled straight out to be released from the clock. Actually, you need to just turn it. There are no instructions or arrows to guide you.

Now the good part. We have a full size grandfather clock and this little jewel sounds just about like it. Amazing sound quality from just using a small speaker and a digitized recording.
The glass over the dial does not pick up much light reflection, if present, and one can clearly
see the numbers and hands in all conditions. The face of the clock has a diameter of about 6 1/4"

The clock uses two 'C' batteries and one of its fixed options is to shut off the ringing between 11:00 pm and 5:45AM after which it resumes ringing. The inside battery compartment seems to be of high quality construction compared to others I have seen. Overall, I really liked this clock and it kept perfect time the few days we had it.

Poundex Cleo Dining Table Review

I've been looking for a small affordable table that seats four with a solid wood top and this one seemed to fit what I've been looking for. I had no problem ordering but it did come in two shipments. The first was the base, which is hollow and was not packaged properly so when it arrived, the base was cracked from top to bottom in two areas. I contacted Visiondecor and they immidiately sent out a new base to replace the cracked one. The second shipment came which included the table top, supports for under the top, and the legs for the base. The four supports that hold the table top were two different colors. There was one dark brown, which matched the color of the table, and three lighter colored supports. I contacted Visiondecor once again with a photo of the mis-matching supports and they sent out replacement parts as soon as it was available. Overall the table looks good, but they do need to package their products with more care. It took two months in order to get all of the correct pieces and was able to put them together. Visiondecor was very good about responding and taking care of the problems that I encountered.

SINGER Futura CE-250 Computerized Sewing and Embroidery Machine with 2 Hoop Sizes, 100 Sitches, 120 Embroidery Designs, 5 Monogramming Fonts Review

I purchased this machine because I wanted to learn to do machine embroidery and didn't want to spend a fortune. I think it is an excellent value. It seems very solid and sewed beautifully with no adjustments straight out of the box. There are sensors in the thread path that are very sensitive and incorrectly report broken thread quite often. As soon as I got the hang of flossing the thread into the sensors this became less of a problem. There are several yahoo groups dedicated to machine embroidery and the nice people there were of great assistance to me as I got started.

Folks like me who are new to machine embroidery should understand that the sewing machine must be physically attached to a computer while you are embroidering. The soft ware running the computer sends the information to the sewing machine one color at a time so don't think that you can download the design and then sew it out later. You are going to need a computer to run the embroidery feature of this machine. I'm using an old computer that was discarded at my office because it was too slow to run large office programs over a network. I took all the other software off and it runs the Future software just fine. If you are going to need to acquire a computer to run your embroidery machine you should consider that cost along with the price of the Futura.

Thread is the paint of embroidery and since it is different than regular thread you are also going to have to make an investment in thread to get started. The price of a spool can vary greatly but if you buy a bunch at one time it can be pricy so think about this to when deciding to make the plunge into machine embroidery.

The difference between the Futura 250 and the Futura 350 is the software. If you plan to create your own embroidery designs you should know that only the basic software comes with the 250 but you can purchase the full software separately. Making clip art into machine embroidery is much more difficult than I first thought and to run the Futura software the sewing machine must be connected to the computer even if you are just working on the design and not doing the actual sewing. There are other software packages that do not have this requirement. You could use them to make the art into embroidery files but you will still need to be connected to your Futura to stitch them out.

I am extremely happy with this product and would recommend it to other people like me who just want to have some fun and spice up their craft and sewing projects. If you are looking to do embroidery professionally then purchase a higher priced and faster machine.
