Product Description
The Tivoli Audio Model Three M3WHT AM/FM Clock Radio (White/Silver) improves your mood from the moment you open your eyes. Designed with spare elegance and natural wood, the Model Three's sound is warm, full and altogether surprising coming from a cabinet this small. The Model Three clock radio features a tuner - originally developed for cellular communications - that brings clarity to even the weakest stations. The Model Three clock radio is compatible with iPod and other players. Give yourself - or someone else you care about - the gift of waking each day to something beautiful.Tivoli Audio Model Three M3WHT AM/FM Clock Radio, White/Silver Review
The sound is great considering how small the speaker is, but it is not by any other standard great sound. It is just decent sound, noticeably better than the sound from radio/CD/MP3/IPod players in the 60 to 100 dollar range. It is not 300 dollars worth of sound.I have decided to keep it, however, mostly for these reasons:
1) Nearly all clock radios with decent (or merely bearable) radio sound quality are completely dependent upon the wall outlet power, lacking a battery to run the clock and alarm all night if the power goes out. The reason I buy an alarm clock is in order to be reliably awakened. What's the use of an unreliable one? The Tivoli may be overpriced but an unreliable feature that might result in being catastrophically late to work is not a bargain at any price. That's why I didn't get a 130-dollar Sangean WR-2 table radio/alarm clock with sound as good or better than the Tivoli -- it only has a 1-hour power reserve.
2) Nearly all other radio-alarmclocks have extraneous features I do not want. I reason that, the greater the number of features, the lower quality and cheaper everything has to be in order to keep the object at a marketable price. Tivoli is recognized for products of limited features but good build quality in whatever features they do have. I value durability.
3) The Model Three radio can be hooked up to a Tivoli CD player and Tivoli bookshelf speakers. CD players seem to be going obsolete but I am reluctant to give up my CDs for mostly-inferior MP3 sound. I want to buy a well built CD player that will last far into the future when such players become hard to find. For that kind of quality it would make sense to buy a Tivoli.
