The problem with getting older is all the detritus that starts following in your wake - knick-knacks, curios, tschotchkes, whatever you want to call them. The vases and paperweights and bowls you end up collecting go in cupboards or big curio cabinets, but what do you do with all the little bits?

Besides giving them away or selling them on Ebay, I mean. You buy a mini-curio cabinet. So I did. And when it came, I found it very well packed. I followed the instructions to hang it. I looked at the wall mounted piece with some trepidation. Would it hold? I have some experience in these things, i was pretty sure it would hold just fine, but lacking the courage of my convictions (our floor is slate - if anything hits it, it breaks, period), I decided to screw a couple of brass angle brackets to the bottom. I hung it, then screwed the brackets to the wall. They aren't really noticeable, I'm pretty sure I didn't need them, but there they are. The cabinet was easy to mount; my wife stood ready to help, but I didn't need her to. I popped in the shelf supports and put in the glass shelves, stuck a lot of little glass and ivory odds and ends into the cabinet, and there it's hung for several weeks.

The only thing that aggravates me is that I hung it about 6-8 inches too high. Howard Miller can hardly take the blame for that. But it's fine; I'm not so aggravated I'm going to rehang it. It looks very nice. It came without a single scratch or nick in the wood, not so much as a chip in any of the glass shelves. It's solid. I like it, my wife likes it. We'll probably get another.
